What is a Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feed?
To keep up to date with all the information you can find across the internet on the billions of web pages is a daunting prospect.
It would be far easier and effecient if the latest news and features you are interested in were delivered directly to you. You could then view and read this information at your leisure, but you're reassured that you are being kept up to date. This is where RSS comes in. It allows you to choose the content you really want to know about and have it delivered to you directly.
It is by far one of the best ways to take the hassle out of keeping abreast of the latest news and developments in the area of interest.
Many of the large media based websites use RSS as a means to communicate the latest information. This is exactly what we use RSS for at Sewards of Petersfield.
How can I start using RSS feeds?
To use RSS feeds you'll need an application called a News Reader. News Readers come in many different versions. There are ones that are accessed directly through your browser and others are downloadable applications.
Get hold of your chosen News Reader, then decide on the content you are interested in. For a list of RSS feeds from Sewards of Petersfield check the bottom of this page. On any of the pages that have an associated RSS feed you will find an orange RSS button, you may also see and orange XML button as some news readers are capable of reading this format also.

If you have chosen an application based (downloaded piece of software) news reader, you can drag the RSS or XML button on to the application and it should automatically subscribe to the feed. Alternatively, for most other types of news reader you can subscribe by clicking the RSS or XML button, then cut and paste the resulting URL address into a new feed in your News Reader.
Some browsers, including Firefox, Opera and Safari, have functionality which automatically pick up RSS feeds for you. For more details on these, please check their websites.
