Hollycombe Steam Rally 26th & 27th May 2012

Hollycombe Steam Rally 26th & 27th May 2012

This weekend we have spent a very hot and sunny time at The Hollycombe Steam Rally in Liphook, Hampshire. Only being about 8 miles up the road we took a leisurely trip up there on Friday afternoon where we set up camp.

Saturday morning we were up and ready for the day ahead, first things first a cooked breakfast then sort out Victoria. We were surprised by the lack of visiting engines at the event as we had attending last year when many more engines had been there but they had change the dates this year from September to may. Hollycombe had lots of their engines in steam including the large Allen Ploughing engine that they have just rebuilt and was looking great. There seemed to be a lack of public here to in the afternoon but maybe that’s due to the fact that the weather was so good they all went to the beach!!! There was a road run to the pub at about 5pm but due to having a poorly child we decided to give that miss.

Sunday, again very hot and sunny but another cooked breakfast set us up for the day ahead, a few more engines turned up today and an old Bedford bus. The public seemed to be coming in today and by mid-afternoon there seemed to be plenty of people riding the rides and enjoying the gardens.

We had a nice time all be it very hot but after the disappointment of our last few events being cancelled it was a nice relaxing way to start our rally season.
