Weald of Kent Rally

Weald of Kent Rally

P1170341

Just got back from a long weekend away with Victoria and the Wagon, we were invited over to Kent for the Weald of Kent rally which was held on an privately owned airfield on 2nd & 3rd August. We arrived Friday and waited for Victoria and the wagon to arrive by low loader which she did by 4pm, by 6pm we were all set up and ready for our weekend. We had been joined by a few other local engines close to us here in Hampshire, there was Pete Lyons with his lovely Clayton Wagon from Surrey, Ed Snodin with his lovely Tasker Tractor “George” and Kate and Gerald Russell with their Foden Wagon from Sussex.

This is the first year the rally, so we were all new to the event but the setting is great with a large airstrip up the middle of the site and to each side exhibits including tractors, vintage cars, commercial & Military vehicles, stationary engines and a fun fair with gallopers, dodgems and a few side stalls.

There was arena which was due to have steam engine games and events on all day to keep the paying public happy. The engines were parked around the fair and beer tent or chuffing a round the site which gave a nice atmosphere to the event. Saturday seemed a bit quiet with public but Sunday was a different story, lots of people and the atmosphere was great and to add to that the planes that put on a display each day made it a bit more special.

We had a lovely weekend and hope that the event will become a major show for Kent, well done to Bill and his team for putting on a great show.
