At the weekend we spent 3 lovely days at Portsmouth Dockyard attending their Victorian Festival of Christmas. What a great event, with lots of wonderful stalls selling lots of christmas gifts, food, beer and wine. The streets are full of people in victorian dress with many of then acting as characters including a Rich street and poor street, there are many of these poeple singing and dancing in the street. There is also always snow in snow street, they have some machines which makes snow and blows out across the street. Horton’s have the beautiful set of gallopers there, at night this is a magical sight to see with many children and adults enjoying a ride on them. You can also visit the ships that are at the dockyard, HMS Warrior, HMS Victory and Mary Rose all well worth a good look round. The new Mary Rose exhibition is great and kids always love walking around the ships.
We had a great weekend and had never seen so many people at an event, reports say over 30,000 visitors over the weekend and I think most of them visited my wagon!! We had many people in the wagon or on the footplate of Victoria, this is a nice thing to be able to do as some of the children had never seen a steam engine and thought that all caravans were white and plastic not green and wooden!!
Lets hope they do it again next year and we are invited back, loved it, a great start to the festive season….
